How to hide suggested posts on Instagram

By Ilya Venskiy · Updated

In the Instagram app, tap the three dots above a suggested post, tap Not interested, then tap Snooze. That hides all suggested posts in your feed for 30 days. There is no permanent off switch, and the snooze doesn’t exist on a computer. To stop seeing them for good, use the Following feed, or on desktop a Chrome extension such as Dumbstagram.

What are suggested posts?

Suggested posts are posts and reels from accounts you don’t follow. Instagram picks them based on things like your activity and connections and mixes them into your Home feed between posts from people you do follow.

How do I snooze suggested posts for 30 days?

In the Instagram app on iPhone, iPad or Android (Instagram Help Center):

  1. Find a suggested post in your Home feed.
  2. Tap the three dots (Options) above the post.
  3. Tap Not interested.
  4. Tap Snooze. All suggested posts in your feed pause for 30 days.

The same menu has two narrower options:

After 30 days the suggestions come back and you snooze again. People have been complaining about that limit for years.

Is there a way to hide suggested posts permanently?

Not in Instagram’s settings. Two things get close:

Why can’t I hide suggested posts on desktop?

Because Instagram never built it there. The Help Center says hiding suggested posts isn’t available on computers, and the website has no visible Following switch either.

One workaround: open instagram.com/?variant=following, which shows only accounts you follow, newest first (still working in August 2026). Instagram doesn’t document that link, so it could stop working.

The permanent fix on a computer is Dumbstagram, a free Chrome extension. It hides suggested posts, Reels, Stories, ads and Explore on instagram.com every time the page loads, and keeps you on the Following feed and DMs. No snooze to renew, no login, no data collected.

Questions

Can you turn off suggested posts on Instagram permanently?

No. In the app you can snooze all suggested posts for 30 days from the Not interested menu, then snooze again when they return. The Following feed has no suggested posts, but the app switches back to the main feed when you reopen it.

Why do suggested posts come back after I snooze them?

The snooze lasts 30 days by design. After that, Instagram shows suggested posts again until you snooze them again.

Can I hide suggested posts on Instagram on my computer?

Not with Instagram's own settings, because the snooze works only in the phone and tablet apps. In Chrome on a computer, the free Dumbstagram extension hides suggested posts on instagram.com every time you open it.

Does resetting suggested content remove suggested posts?

No. Resetting clears what Instagram has learned about your interests, so suggestions start over. You still see suggested posts, and they become personalized again as you use the app.
