How to see only posts from people you follow on Instagram

By Ilya Venskiy · Updated

On your phone, tap Instagram at the top left of your Home feed and choose Following. You see posts only from accounts you follow, newest first, with no suggested posts. On a computer, open instagram.com/?variant=following. Neither one sticks: Instagram drops you back on the algorithmic feed next time.

What is the Instagram Following feed?

Following is Instagram’s chronological feed. It shows posts and reels from people you follow, from newest at the top to older as you scroll. Instagram added it in March 2022, together with Favorites, a shorter feed from accounts you pick yourself.

The normal Home feed is ranked by Instagram and mixes in suggested posts from accounts you don’t follow. Following doesn’t. Once you reach posts you have already seen, you are done.

How do I switch to Following on iPhone or Android?

  1. Open Instagram and go to your Home feed.
  2. Tap Instagram at the top left.
  3. Tap Following.

That is the path in the Instagram Help Center for the iPhone, iPad and Android apps.

Can I make Following my default feed?

No. There is no way to make it your default timeline in the official app. Each time you reopen Instagram, you start on the main feed again and have to switch by hand.

How do I see only Following on Instagram desktop?

Instagram’s website has no visible Following switch, and the Help Center lists the Following view as not available on the web. But a hidden link still works:

How-To Geek reported these links in 2024, and they still worked in August 2026. Bookmark the first one and use it instead of instagram.com. Two caveats: Instagram doesn’t document them, so they could stop working, and Reels, Stories and Explore are still one click away.

How do I make Following stick on desktop?

Dumbstagram is a free Chrome extension that keeps instagram.com on the Following feed every time you open it. It also hides Reels, Stories, ads, Explore and suggested posts, so the Following feed and your DMs are all that is left. No login, no data collected, and one toolbar toggle restores normal Instagram.

Questions

Is the Instagram Following feed chronological?

Yes. Following shows posts and reels from accounts you follow, with the newest at the top and older posts as you scroll down.

Why does Instagram keep switching back from Following?

Following is a view, not a setting. Instagram doesn't let you make it your default, so the app opens on the main algorithmic feed every time.

Does instagram.com have a Following feed?

Yes, but it is hidden. Open instagram.com/?variant=following in your browser. Instagram doesn't document this link, so it could stop working.

Does Dumbstagram show only posts from people I follow?

Yes. On instagram.com in Chrome, Dumbstagram keeps you on the Following feed and hides suggested posts, Reels, Stories, Explore and ads.
